Beyond basic music understanding, these lessons offer a musicology that layers the functional understanding with the innovative side of this artistic outlet.

Our Teachers

Kortney Dowdell

I started playing piano at the age of 5, self taught. Because I lacked theory and knowledge I taught myself based on shapes and wrote nursery rhymes. I had to create using imagination and finding shapes on the piano. Years later I found this style of teaching more of a journey than classical music because its leads you to listen more. I’ve been teaching for 12 years and have played in church all my life. With parents being pastors I grew up surrounded by music and that was my first musical opportunity. I have toured with LeToya Luckett with Destiny’s child and opened for Mary J. Blige. Some artists I’ve played for are CeCe Winans, Tye Tribbett, Deitrick Haddon, Preashea Hilliard, William Murphy, Tasha Cobbs, and David and Nicole Binion. I took my first job as a music director in 2008 at Destiny World Outreach Center for 5 years. I then went to Ministry of Hope for 5 years, and Newlife Church for the last 7 years. My strength and passion is team building and producing music for tours and shows.

Erica Walstead

I was originally trained in classical piano and have over 12 years of training and experience taking private lessons from several teachers. That’s my foundation as a musician. In the last 4 years I’ve branched out to playing a variety of styles and in a variety of contexts. I’ve spent a few years playing on a worship team with a band playing both piano and bass guitar. I also play acoustic guitar and sing. I’ve played for weddings. I play by ear and read music. I make my own arrangements of songs. I also write my own music. It’s my goal as a teacher is to have a unique approach for each student, customized by their personal interests and dreams for musical achievement. I have always had a deep love and appreciation for music (specifically piano) and I hope to instill that same love in every student I get to teach.
