About

Kortney Dowdell

Founder, Ultrasound Productions

Kortney Dowdell, a Detroit native, discovered his passion for music early, teaching himself to play the xylophone at age 5 and quickly transitioning those skills to the piano by age 6. Without formal training or music theory knowledge, he began learning nursery rhymes and crafting chords by visualizing shapes. This unique approach laid the foundation for his musical journey.

Upon transferring to a suburban high school recognized for its music program, Kortney was formally introduced to music theory, which greatly expanded his skills and deepened his understanding of composition and performance. His growth was also nurtured in his grandfather’s and parents’ churches, where he honed his talent in gospel music.

Known for his creative improvisation and adaptability across musical genres, Kortney secured his first official role as Music Director at Destiny World Outreach Center in Killeen, Texas. There, he collaborated with acclaimed artists, including William Murphy, Tasha Cobbs, CeCe Winans, David and Nicole Binion, BJ Putnam, IV Hilliard, Preshia Hilliard, and Deitrick Haddon, among others. He also directed music for high-profile events, such as the WOMEN WHO WIN Conference and AME & COGIC conventions.

Kortney’s career further expanded as a member of Distinguished Sounds, a Texas-based band specializing in soulful music and cover performances. This role led him to tour with Letoya Luckett of Destiny’s Child and open for Mary J. Blige on her Strength of a Woman Tour.

Since 2017, Kortney has been based in the Greater Seattle area, where he serves as a worship leader. Outside of music, he is a dedicated husband and father of six, finding joy in family life alongside his wife, Briana. Through Ultrasound Productions, he continues to produce, teach, and cultivate talent while actively contributing to his local community through events and performances.
